Uniformity of foreground Galactic neutral Hydrogen over cooling flow clusters
نویسندگان
چکیده
Radio maps at 21 cm of foreground neutral hydrogen over three cooling flow clusters of galaxies show that the foreground gas is uniform on scales from ∼ 1 – 10 arcmin. Five sigma limits on fluctuations in the foreground column density for Abell 3581, Sersic 159-03 and Abell 2597 are 6.2× 10, 7.8× 10 and 4.3× 10 cm−2, or 14, 43 and 17 percent of the mean foreground column density in the region of the system, respectively. Fluctuations in the column density of neutral gas in the Galaxy are unlikely to account for any excesses of photoelectric absorption in these or other cooling flow clusters. Fluctuations in the foreground neutral gas on arcminute scales are also unlikely to be the cause of excess EUV and soft X-ray emission from clusters.

The properties of cooling flows in X-ray luminous clusters of galaxies
We discuss the X-ray properties of the cooling flows in a sample of thirty highly Xray luminous clusters of galaxies observed with the ASCA and ROSAT satellites. We demonstrate the need for multiphase models to consistently explain the spectral and imaging X-ray data for the clusters. The mass deposition rates of the cooling flows, independently determined from the ASCA spectra and ROSAT images...
متن کاملParametric study of the influence of cooling channel dimensions on PEM fuel cell thermal performance
In a polymer membrane fuel cell more than half of the chemical energy of hydrogen is converted to heat during generation of electricity. This causes an increase in the cell temperature. The Cooling field design has a significant role in cell cooling. The cell's performance and stability are reduced due to inappropriate heat dissipation. In this paper, the cooling flow and heat transfer in cooli...
متن کاملEnhancement of the Cooling System Performance of the Proton-exchange Membrane Fuel Cell By Baffle-restricted Coolant Flow Channels
The performance of proton-exchange membrane fuel cell cooling system using coolant flow channels enhanced with baffles was numerically investigated. To do this, the maximum temperature of the cooling plate, temperature uniformity and also pressure drop along the flow channels were compared for different cases associated with number of baffles and their dimensions inside the channels. The govern...
متن کاملThe Detectability of AGN Cavities in Cooling-Flow Clusters
Chandra X-ray Observatory has revealed X-ray cavities in many nearby cooling flow clusters. The cavities trace feedback from the central active galactic nulceus (AGN) on the intracluster medium (ICM), an important ingredient in stabilizing cooling flows and in the process of galaxy formation and evolution. But, the prevalence and duty cycle of such AGN outbursts is not well understood. To this ...
متن کاملThe Source of Mass Accreted by the Central Black Hole in Cooling Flow Clusters
This paper reports the study of the cold-feedback heating in cooling flow clusters. In the cold-feedback model the mass accreted by the central black hole originates in non-linear over-dense blobs of gas residing in an extended region (r . 5 − 30 kpc); these blobs are originally hot, but then cool faster than their environment and sink toward the center. The intra-cluster medium (ICM) entropy p...
